1257 is HUGE but can get boring because of travel (covers all of Europe and some of Asia, as well as the Middle East and North Africa) and it eventually becomes a grind when conquering kingdoms (42 factions as of 1.03)

Overall Brytenwalda is smaller but has more refined features, some of which add some realism to the game. I've not played Brytenwalda as much but it is also very historically accurate and has features such as bleeding, fatigue, dismemberment, and different choices on how to deal with the aftermath of a battle (burn the dead, loot the dead and leave them to rot, etc.) The mod has a very well made culture and religious system (villages hate you for having a different religion to theirs, and I think the same if you are from a different culture.) You do need a decent computer to run the mod smoothly though. Its full of factions so there are plenty of wars to participate in, it includes mods such as freelancer so you can be a part of someones army instead of leading one (and is also a great way to get money until you can afford enterprises.) And like Proudly_Obsolete said its all historically accurate and has the option of joining in the crusade (and I think the Islamic equivalent, although that could just be me playing a lot of CKII lately)
